Key Directions

Children’s Treatment Centres, as the hub for children’s rehabilitation services for families, are well-positioned to assist the Ministry of Children and Youth Services in the transformation of service delivery for children and youth with disabilities, using a family-centred approach.

OACRS believes that CTCs, with their track record of excellence in family-centred children’s rehabilitation service delivery, can provide the leadership in service provision and co-ordination required to give children with disabilities the best start and enable them to reach their potential.

Losing the Potential: An Update

Despite the recent $10 million investment by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, on September 30, 2006, 5000 children with disabilities were waiting for service, 25% more than on September 30, 2005, and these children are waiting an average of 26 weeks for service.

Wait lists have the effect of diluting the services that these children receive, reducing their ability to fully reach their potential.
